My sister Meredith was in the area from Thursday night until this morning. She and her boyfriend Bob did some touristy things, hit the outlets, and saw some friends they had in the city on Thursday and Friday. Saturday afternoon they came over and we planned our Saturday night. Once again Mere forced me to get out of the basement and discover not one but two new places in the area.
We went out to dinner at a place where you did not order your dinner by the value meal number so immediately Drew and I were out of our element, but we soon caught on. We shared a "seafood fondue" appetizer which was like this little crock of melty cheese deliciousness with shrimp and crab in it. It was served with thick warm pita chips, not the crispy kind but the kind that are like bread, but they were toasty enough to scoop up the dip.
For dinner I got the seafood skewers Hot Rock dinner. From their website:
I got 4 large shrimp and 4 huge scallops, some mashed potatoes and some veggies, drawn butter and cocktail sauce. It was really neat to cook the food myself and eat it just as it's done, but it's also very hot!
After dinner we headed over to Gullifty's Underground to see a band that Mere and Bob really liked that were in the area named Halestorm. There were 3 band before Halestorm all what I would call "screaming rock". The surprise of the night for me came when the band "Bob" started to take the stage, I immediately doubted I would like any of their music.
I prepared myself for a set full of screaming and moshing (do they still mosh?), here's the thing though, they had this incredible energy that made their set great! For the type of music it was I'm sure it was fine, but the dread headed people jumping around was just so fun to watch.
We had a lot of fun people watching, making up names for other patrons that would have made my sister Karen proud. There was "skinny jeans guy" and "fringe jacket girl" (black leather fringe my friends, I kid you not). "Feather hair man" came dressed in the highest fashion dark stonewash denim Hard Rock Cafe jacket and later revealed to us his fashionable gray suit vest over blue t-shirt look. My favorite person though, was "Beehive woman". The hair on this woman was incredible. She looked like a cross between the blonde chick from the B-52's and the Cowardly Lion. Good times, good times.
