Dear Amazon.com,
I know it's the holiday season, and you guys are super busy, but if I may I'd like to make a suggestion that would help keep your customers maaaaybe a little bit happier, ready? Ok, let's just make up a little scenario here... let's just say I'm the customer and I'm shopping plenty early enough to get things 3-4 weeks before I need them for gift giving. Just for the sake of argument let's say that I select... um... 3 items from your vast selection of products and every item shows as "in stock" and "usually ships within 24 hours".
Now imagine that I'm only slightly annoyed by the fact that 2 of the 3 things ship from "other" stores included at Amazon.com and not only do I not qualify for Super Saver (free) shipping, but I have to pay shipping on each item that comes from a seperate store instead of getting a combined shipping rate. So, in order to get free shipping on my one item I get another item that may be cheaper at another store, but I'll save like $6 on the shipping so it all balances out. Click click, and my order is placed.
Here's where the scenario get's a little tricky so try and keep up. Imagine that today I get an email from one of the places that charged me shipping ($8 too, not just like 3-4) saying that my item has shipped. Yay.... but... hmmm... then I become a little curious as to when my other items may ship so I logon and click your little conveint "where's my stuff" button. Low and behold it tells me that my order will not ship until December 26th because that's when the items will become available. We must have different definitions of "in stock" here in Pennsylvania. These things happen at the holiday season, but here's where my suggestion comes in... how about a little email that says "hey, remember the stuff you wanted? We don't have it right now". How tough would that be? I think it would be pretty easy, just like it was easy for me to cancel my entire order at that point.
Thanks for ignoring the fact that people give gifts ON Christmas and sharing the joy of paying extra for shipping... which is what I have to do now to get the gifts I want on time from other stores.
I hope you get coal.
Liz

I'm surprised you're able to keep this cool!
Oh, and it's OK if my gift comes late - no worries!
AMEN. I have had the same thing happen this year. I ordered 7 items, and my shipping was an astronomical $20, because it's all coming from their vendor "friends." And then I did the same thing, went and checked out the status to see that 2 items won't ship till December 23rd. I used to love Amazon, but now I feel duped.
