I should start this post by making the possibly shocking statement that I am in no way a Beatles fan. Sure I can sing along with a good deal of their songs, and I believe John Lennon's Imagine to be quite possibly the best song I've ever heard in my life, but if there were no longer Beatles records on the planet I can't say I'd feel any void at all. That being said I love almost every song in the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Probably because I enjoy the Beatles music, just not necessarily their singing of it.
The first time I saw the movie I walked out of the room (at home) because I could not believe that Strawberry died. I was so sad I left the house. Imagine my surprise when about an hour later my brother came running over to the pool (we lived in Narraticon in Deptford then) to tell me that she miraculously came back to life at the end of the movie.
Now as I'm watching that scene (it's On Demand on Comcast this month if you want to catch it) it's pretty funny. Here are a few things about the movie I hadn't realized before:
- George Burns narrates the whole movie because Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees all had such strong accents the producers didn't really want them to talk.
- Peter Frampton cannot even pretend to act. He looks like goofy stoner most of the movie.
- Donald Pleasence, the doctor from all the Halloween Movies, plays B.D. the record producer. He's got a wig and a gold tooth. Freaking hysterical.
- "Crater Face" from the Grease movies can be seen in at least 2 scenes and is credited as "dancer".
- It's worth the watch just to see who you can name in the finale. Dame Edna, Carol Channing (forgetting the words), Wolfman Jack, Bowzer from ShaNaNa, Leif Garret, and 2 Beatles in disguise. There are plenty more, I couldn't type that fast.
- Barry Gibb had some beautiful hair. He probably cries when he watches it.
- My brother's Fran's version of "She came in through the bathroom window" is just as good as Frampton's.

LOL...you finally got to see it again! Didn't I watch that late night when I came to visit you? So funny. Aerosmith (especially Steven Tyler) scared the living crap out of me singing Come Together. Great rendition, but I, like you, were quite young when watching it for the first time on HBO...and Steven just looked and sounded evil to me!
