Discovering Produce

Kae and I have recently started something new. Whenever we go food shopping we pick something to try from the produce aisle that we've never tried before. We've done this twice so far and it's becoming something we're looking forward to (not the food shopping part).
Kae's first choice was sugar cane:
Sugar cane looks very much like bamboo. The supermarket sells it in 12 inch pieces. Using a sharp knife I cut off the outer rind then cut the center into smaller pieces, about 1/2 inch thick and 6 inches long. We just kind of chewed on the center, I don't know how else to describe it. It was like sweet soft wood. I give the sugar cane a B-, Kae gives it an A.

Next came my turn, I chose a guava. The guava looks almost exactly like a lime. We split it open and it was bright pink in the middle with small white seeds, like a teeny little watermelon. However, we did not enjoy the guava as much as the sugar cane. Maybe we didn't pick a ripe one, maybe you're not supposed to just cut it up and eat it, who knows? It tasted like a sour kiwi. The seeds were hard, not like the white seeds in a water melon, and it kind of had the consistency of an unripe peach. We both give the guava a D.
