Kae and I had an adventursome Saturday/Sunday. Since she's back to feeling like herself it was pretty much a typical "Kae and Mom" kind of time. Saturday we got pizza for lunch and watched cheesy movies. The first one was Wicked Little Things a bad zombie movie about kids that died in a mine coming back to kill people that were taking over their land. The zombies looked like young versions of Green Day band members. The second one was a Kaeleigh favorite, Cry Baby. Kae's been a fan of this movie for years, and it was on one of the Encore channels last night so we were all over it. When the movies were over we took a late night ride to McDonalds for McFlurries :)
Today we hit an art store first, Kae expressed interest in a sketch pad so we got a smallish one, some pencils and a few other small accessories. Then we headed off to the VOA Thrift Store. We'd never been to this one and we were not disapointed. It was very large, clean and well let. The selection was decent but the same as all thrift stores. I looked for my usuals; tablecloth, big clear jug (for sun tea), and weird kitchen utensils, and of course we browsed the clothes. I found a new pair of "comfy pants" and Kae got a (ready for this) tube top. We got both items for $4 and as I type this we are both wearing our finds. While we were strolling through the store we came across the misc. section. This is usually filled with a bazillion wicker baskets discareded from flower arrangements and meat/cheese assortment packages, usually a few odd household items like the teen "cool phone" (purple headset) and a ton of tins just begging to be filled with Christmas cookies. It was in this section we saw these little statues.
There were only those 3, no other letters that would spell out the remainder or a word, and no way they could be re-arranged to spell something different. We were cracking up in the middle of the aisle.
Next we hit the pet store as it seems my Sara has manged to get fleas and we needed to get her some meds (and some for Max too just in case). How the hell an indoor cat can catch fleas is beyond me, but I saw one on her little fading bald spot the other day. There were at least 3 yellow labs in Pet Smart and they were all sweet and lovey. We also got a second scratch pad as it seems that Sara lays on the current one and does not let Max play with it. The new one has a little nip-filled fish attached to it and Max loved it.
After that we headed over Dockside Willies on the river for lunch. We had some river rocks which are these great knots of dough that are brushed with garlic butter and parmesan, and inside is cheese and either sausage, meatball or pepperoni. It's a mystery what you get until you take a bite, but they are all great. We enjoyed our delicious food and they even had Sam Adams cherry wheat ale on tap. When we were there I saw Kae take a sip of her mango smoothie and then spit out a chunk of ice into her hand. She then proceeded to (thinking she was sly) throw the piece of ice under the table. I saw what she did and gave her my sternest mom look. Of course she laughed and said "What? I've seen other people do it". I explained to her that doesn't make it right and asked where she saw that... turns out she saw Aunt Donna do it once. I'll have to beat Aunt Donna for that this coming weekend. We finished off our adventure with a Rita's water ice and then headed home. We were cool, we ate a Rita's. All and all a great day with my kiddo :)
