Last night in our town was Trick-or-Treat night in our town. I put up the spiderwebs and "caution" tape, carved a pumpkin and roasted the seeds, yum! I love it when they come out just perfect, crunchy and salty. I put out the cauldron and the little fogger thing that sits in there and makes it smokey and spooky looking. When Drew got home we moved come of the lawn furniture to the top of the driveway next to the front door. Drew moved the scarecrow that we made on Scarecrow Day into the chair and sat down on one end of the couch.
For the past few years I've been working on Halloween, Drew has been in charge of handing out the candy and in the process has made a name for himself scaring the neighborhood kids by jumping out or popping up in his V for Vendetta mask. I was a little apprehensive at first, worried about small children getting scared and what their parents would say, but that didn't last long.
Parents loved it, most of them could tell Drew wasn't really a scarecrow. Some remembered that he was the one wearing the V mask last year and many commented on how fun our house is to come trick or treating at. One dad wished out loud that he had caught his daughter jumping on video camera. Drew made at least 8 kids scream loudly and every parent laughed. A few of the parents jumped, and one little girl started to cry. Drew apologized and the kids she was with giggled and wanted him to scare other kids. We felt a little bad about the crying girl until we realized they were the crazy loud always screaming kids that lived behind us and one yard over.
All in all I couldn't have been prouder of my scarecrow husband and his continuing tradition for making Halloween fun, and just a little bit scary.
