Back in the day (one of my least favorite terms) TV was special. It wasn't as taken for granted as it was today. It wasn't on all the time, it wasn't allowed to be. There were Saturday morning cartoons that we watched maybe 7:30 until 10:30. They were all great and they were all funny. Looking back on them today we laugh not at the content, but at how silly they look to us now.
I got my brother some Land of the Lost episodes on DVD for Christmas as year or two ago and we cracked up at the Sleestacks that used to scare the crap out of us.
We could never get through that episode of the Brady Bunch when the kids didn't want them to sell the house because the fake ghost noises they were making freaked us out every time.
There were programs like The Harlem Globetrotters Show followed by the Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Hour. We would laugh hysterically over an emu puppet on the show, something so incredibly simple. The only Anime we had was the one all future anime shows would be based on... Speed Racer (my only crush on a cartoon character ever was on the elusive Racer X). There were even TV shows at the very beginning of a season highlighting all the new shows coming out that season.
And of course... there were the Banana Splits. I can't remember a single thing about the show past the intro, but the intro always was the best part. The audio is a little low... so turn it up and Tra la la along.
Special thanks to my cousin, Jennifer, for her inspiration of this blog post. You can read her blog HERE. You'll see it's not just me, insane blogging is obviously in our blood.
